Hai duong province lies in the Red Riverdelta, from 20o36 to 21o33 latitude and from 106o30 to 106o36 longitude, neghbouring with 6 provinces: Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Quang Ninh in the north; Hung Yen in the west; Thai Binh in the south; Hai Phong in the east.

The transportation network, which includes roads, railways and river-ways is reasonably distributed. A number of National Roads such as Road No.5, Road No.18, Road No.183 pass Hai duong province.

Provincial and district roads have been upgraded and improved, giving favourable conditions for exchanges with others. Hai duong town - the political, economic, cultural centre of the province, is located along the national Road No.5, 45 km far from Hai phong on the east, 57 km far from Hanoion the west and 80 km far from Ha long bay. The national road No.18 (of which around 20 km is in the province on the north) is going through Noi bai airport to the sea (Cai lan port, Quang ninh province). The railway route between Hanoiand Haiphongvia Hai duong province is considered as a bridge to connect the national cityto northern provincesand to the sea. As a province being located in the centre of the important economic triangle in the North (Hanoi- Haiphong - Quang ninh), Hai duong will have favourable opportunities to share its labors to the total northern area, especially to exchange goods with other provinces and cities and for export.
