Cao Bang is one of the northern mountainous provinces of our country. It borders Guangxi province (China) in the north and northeast along 311 km, Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang provinces in the west, Bac Can and Lang Son in the south. It is measured 80 km north-south, between 23007’12” to 22021’21” latitudes north (from Trong Con commune, Thach An district to Duc Hanh commune, Bao Lam district) and 170 km east-west between 105016’15” to 106050’25” longitudes east (from Quang Lam commune, Bao Lam district to LyQuoc commune, Ha Lang district).
Cao Bang has an area of 6,690.72 km2. This is a limestone plateau alternated with soil mountains. Its average height is around 200 m, the border zone is 600-1,300 m above the sea level. Forests cover over 90% of the province’s area. There are three zones: the eastern with stone mountains, the western with stone mountains alternated with soil ones, the southwestern with soil mountains and thick forests.
